Our school is about to embark on a special project called #OneBookConnects! We’re all going to read the same book together, along with schools and families across the country. Reading this book together will enable your family to share and our school community to connect. The book is Kenny and the Dragon, by Tony DiTerlizzi. You are going to love sweet, bookish Kenny Rabbit and his new friend, Grahame (like the cracker!), the Renaissance dragon! You’ll be receiving a copy of the book, along with a tailored 2-week reading schedule–reading starts on April 19th. Generally you will be asked to read about 15 minutes per night together. Your family can also participate in a Nationwide Kenny and the Dragon Social Media Contest provided by Read to Them. You will find daily questions and activities on the Read to Them social media channels and website. Your student can share and engage with other students in our school community and across the nation. Students, families, and schools can all win prizes provided by various sponsors–including a Grand Prize for one family and one school. Let’s all use the deep friendship of a rabbit and a dragon to read together and connect!

hi Carrollton friends Miss Smith here and I'm here mask free cuz I'm all alone in this room a long time well I have exciting news today but before I give you the exciting news for today you notice that my background is a bookstore I love reading and I I love books so I know what to think I really love about books is that when I start to read I go into a whole different world I can forget about what's going on I could be stressed about all kinds of things but when I get into a book I go into that world kind of nice to escape for a little bit and to go in to see what someone else is doing I could be in a really cool books I could be at a tea party in the forest I could go down this magical Lane and see what's going to happen next or I could find myself in a whole nother time. With castles and animals talk a little bit different than what we have going on here right so I thought what kind of great whole school book club because yes it's that time of year it would be if we all went on an adventure to another time and another place that's extremely different from the one we're living in right now still my friend are you ready to join my book club again this year every year we pick a book and we all read it together not that I expect you to read it all by yourself because guess what I want you to go home and I want you to read it with your family so each night you could read more chapters and when you come back we'll have all read the same chapters to be able to talk I already here with this year's book is now some of you may have already picked it up already. Some of my virtual friends I had to put it out so you can get it and have it ready for today if you haven't picked it up yet it is outside Carrollton outside door to make sure you talk to your parents and see if I can come pick it up so you can be part of the fun reading our book this year is called drum roll please oh yeah could be able to make it because my background Kenny and the Dragon you heard me Kenny and the Dragon already have things coming up in your head like what it could possibly be about you can see the cover now this is Kenny Kenny is a rabbit rabbit and he meets a dragon and I'm not going to tell you too much cuz I don't want to ruin the story but they live in a cool place called round Brook get comfy I want to read you a little bit little taste of what's coming up okay you comfy. Be quiet I'm not super loud I can't be but I'm not today message that has very few pictures but this is what you need to know today I told up yours it doesn't look like I'll keep looking down before I forget many hold on I know what you're thinking you're thinking about a book about a dragon should start with Once upon a time but this one doesn't because frankly I don't really know what Once Upon a Time now I was once upon a horse that was fun also I was once upon a night Galloping on his horse but that is another story entirely so instead let me start article with this once Farm in a town just west from yours and on a Wednesday many years ago a rabbit farmer his wife and their son Kenneth or preparing to sit down supper now can it seems a little formal for a boy's name doesn't it no kid would say can I borrow a pencil no kid with a pencil Belair County would not even notice when they swiped it from his school desk for UC Kenny always had his head buried in a book and he loved her also subjects science Mysteries history and even Fairy Tail in fact Fairytales and natural history were his two favorite Topix the first Kenny was concern both held the same Merit in the real world so it's not surprising that he enjoyed going to school do you enjoy going to school he always ask compelling questions always did his homework complete with footnotes and bibliography and always had fantastic Notions about what do you want to do one day he want to be an astronaut and meet extraterrestrials left really good vocabulary word some people call an alien extraterrestrials from a distant planet the next he decide on a jungle Explorer looking for living dinosaurs you build a submersible that could go deep in the ocean to find lost underwater each day was something new I like this guy already kid has such an imagination his English teacher would say his location of local flora and fauna is quite impressive His science teacher would say Kenny rabbit he's kind of out there his classmates would say and do a certain degree they were right you see like them Kenny grew up on a farm and both his mother and father were farmers they came from generations of farmers who grew vegetables and raised livestock so his parents like most of his neighbor's really didn't have time to read they were just too busy tending the farm can't Harvest with a book his mother would say no book ebooks going to bring the sheep in it and sundown is that would say regardless of what they thought though his parents did their very best to support Kenny and all that he did write down to listening to the lengthy theories on this and that over dinner UC and he would tell them it's going to rain because cold air and warm air Clyde in the upper atmosphere this creates thunder and it causes moisture within the cumulus clouds the ball I thought it was going to rain because the cows were laying down his father would reply and most folks in town live agreed with Kenny's dad hold on a second what was the name of that town can't believe I forgot I was near water don't you know that's in the northern province Meadow Falls I thought it either but it was a stream or river Round Rock that's it the town was sort of roundish in layout with a Brook running through the middle of it I can't believe I almost forgotten not something I fell in my position should allow alright then farming town of round crock can he lives with his parents went to school did his chores on the farm and filled the rest of his time reading which is precisely where we find him at the beginning of our tail that be just friends into chapter 1 and chapter one is titled that devil scourge now I can't read that to you right now read with your family tonight now if you want to read it with me maybe there'll be a video you can access on the school website or canvas with me reading to my family and if you keep going back to clever canvas as your teacher which one each night you can see someone else read it with their family or read it at school and you can read along with us but every family is going to get up copy of the book now I say family so if you have an older brother or sister the oldest student is going to take the book home today yeah that's right I have copies for every family you're going to have cool active you can do with the family that go along with the book you're going to have a reading schedule cuz we're going to read every night for two whole weeks to week for going to be this and all the teachers are going to have copies of books in the bus drivers have copies of book that they're in the we are having a skewed family book club the Carrollton family so I hope very much that you will keep track of your book that you will read it every night and be ready to come tell me about every morning because you know I'm going to be reading hello teachers are you going to be reading I know you are so students what do you say are you in for Miss Smith's Giant Book Club for Kenny the Dragon I'm so excited to share this book with you and I'm still glad we still get to do it still here's to happy reading friends and I can't wait to hear what you think is its about this book and I wonder where Kenny is going to meet this dragon So Many Wonders I can't wait it is going to take a lot for me to not read this whole book like that but I'm going to hold off and I'm going to try and read it chapter by chapter at night just like you are so I don't spoil anything all right well friends let's start this adventure together have a fantastic day and I can't wait to hear about it tomorrow
