CAES Weekly Update • June 5, 2021
Studies have shown that too much screen time is bad for kids. Studies have also shown that mother losing her sanity is bad for kids, too. We will begin to officially collect IWCS-issued iPads and charging equipment June 14 for our in-person Cardinals and June 16 for our virtual Cardinals. Now would be a great time to start tracking down cases and charging bricks and cables. You may even want to do a little “home inspection” yourself, looking over the items to check for damage. As a heads-up (and motivator), here are the prices for missing or broken items:
While we’d rather have the equipment back in good condition, we understand that life happens; so, if you’re paying by check, please make it out to Isle of Wight County.
Just like we offered virtual families for iPad distribution last fall, we will have a drive-thru service for collection and details are coming.
Good to Know
Cardinals will have uninterrupted access to ST Math all summer long! Students will continue to be able to play the current school year's “Journey” and work on incomplete assignments.
Struggling with spring sports and finding time to read to your child? Here’s a resource recommended by our Reading Coach, Mrs. C. Smith: https://www.understood.org/en/school-learning/learning-at-home/encouraging-reading-writing/no-time-to-read-to-your-child-6-ideas-to-try
Regarding virtual school for 2021-2022, here is the link to the contract and other helpful information: Virtual School 2021-22. Caregivers must submit a contract agreeing to five full days of instruction per week in addition to other program stipulations; contracts are due by June 11 for grades K-5.
Attached you will find a flyer announcing registration for the Calvary Summer Day Camp.
From Our PTA
Please see the attached document that outlines the various opportunities that parents/caregivers will have next school year to assist the Carrollton PTA and make our school an even better place for all Cardinals.
For the third week in a row, not a single hybrid Cardinal was quarantined due to presenting COVID-like symptoms or being related to someone who presented symptoms or being in contact with a COVID-positive non-CAES person. Since September, we’ve only had seventeen hybrid Cardinals test positive, and through our contact tracing we have found no Cardinal-to-Cardinal spread.
While we remained masked inside the building, Isle of Wight County Schools made masks/face coverings for students and staff optional while participating in outdoor activities such as recess, outdoor PE, and athletic events and practices. IWCS students and staff will continue to practice social distancing outside and should avoid congregating in large groups.
From Nurse Stalls: If your child has any COVID-like symptoms, you must keep him/her home. Please call or e-mail the school and report all of the symptoms. If you have other IWCS students in the same household, please keep them home as well. For questions or guidance, you may contact me at any time at email@example.com or 757-357-8857.
Please continue with the morning symptom-checking to prevent sending your child to school sick or contagious.
